What is Project P.R.O.M.I.S.E.?

The acronym P.R.O.M.I.S.E. stands for Prepared, Resilient, Optimistic, Motivated, Inspired, Successful, and Educated. The Project P.R.O.M.I.S.E. organization is committed to assisting students from underrepresented populations with accomplishing their academic and career goals.

The TRIO Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search programs are FREE programs for eligible students. These programs are sponsored by the United States Department of Education and housed at the Project P.R.O.M.I.S.E. office. Currently, the organization provides services to 500 Educational Talent Search students who are 11-27 years of age. The Upward Bound program serves 60 high school students. Students in Upward Bound must be at least 14 years of age and have completed the 8th Grade. Students enrolled in the Upward Bound program have an opportunity to earn monthly stipends and participate in an intense six-week summer program.

Services available to Talent Search and Upward Bound students include:

Summer Instructional Component (SIC) Upward Bound

During the SIC, students have an opportunity to reside on campus for 1-week and take part in an intensive thematic academic program that is designed with college preparatory classes, study skills, and test-taking skills classes. Co-curricular courses are offered to provide students with experiential and hands-on learning. To complement the academic portion of the SIC students are involved in a research-based field experience. In addition, students participate in group activities and workshops.

Academic Year Component (AYC) Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search

During the AYC, the Upward Bound program conducts in-school workshops and monthly Saturday sessions that include tutoring, ACT/SAT Prep, FAFSA assistance, cultural & social workshops, counselling services, as well as academic & cultural excursions. Students will also have opportunities to participate in career & educational seminars, along with leadership conferences.
