Cook County Gun Violence Awareness Month 2025
Campaign Overview
For over 10 years, organizations and leaders have recognized June as Gun Violence Awareness Month and mobilized people to wear orange to show solidarity with survivors and those working to prevent gun violence. The wear orange movement began in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teen who was killed by gun violence in 2013.
Cook County has long been committed to investing in and promoting community-based solutions to gun violence. This social media campaign aims to 1) increase awareness of themovement to end gun violence 2) provide education on the impacts of the gun violencecrisis and effective approaches to preventing gun violence and 3) share what Cook Countyis doing address gun violence and increase community safety. Please join us in posting onsocial media throughout June to amplify these important messages.

Community Action in Cook County
